THABAZIMBI – Marakele National Park, outside Thabazimbi in Limpopo has a new Park Manager. Mr Mphadeni Nthangeni, who is currently the Conservation Manager has been promoted and will from 01 July be the Park Manager of this Big five national Park.
Born and bred in Ngovhela village in the Province of Limpopo, Mr Nthangeni developed a connection to nature and developed a keen interest in conservation when he was looking after his father’s cattle. This passion led him to Mangosuthu Technikon (now called Durban University of Technology) where he obtained a BTech in Nature Conservation.
Straight from the Technikon Mr Nthangeni joined SANParks as a field guide in Kruger National Park. He later moved to Golden Gate Highlands National Park in the Free State as Project Manager for the Working for Water and Wetlands projects. After five years of Project management experience he was then appointed as Section ranger where he was later appointed as Conservation Manager before he took the same position in Marakele three and half years ago.
A firm believer in team work, Nthangeni says “I believe my experience will count for something but above all I know team effort will ensure that we continue to carry the flag of Marakele up high.”
