THABAZIMBI – The Ithuteng Early Learning Centre got a visit from the Fire Brigade on Monday 25 May, where they explained what to use in which situations to the children.
They told the children that they use the CO² extinguishers inside houses and the DCP outside and that they have to wear protective clothing that is made of three layers of material with a helmet, gloves, SCBA and a face mask while battling the fire element.
Some of the equipment that they use in forcible entries is a “haligang” bar and bold cutters.
They are also responsible to secure and accident sense and help where they can by placing cones with reflectors for barricades, using the spreader to open broken car doors and sheers to cut the metal and all the medical equipment to help stabilise the accident victim.
Thank you to the four fire fighters (Gladys, Mendo, Thabo and Georgina) that came to the school to show the children about this profession and to help them understand that fire can destroy lives and nature.
