THABAZIMBI – The community of Thabazimbi was shocked on Wednesday by the brutal murder of Christine Robinson, owner of the Rra Ditau Game Lodge, about 15km outside Thabazimbi, across the road from Marakele National Park.
Christine’s battered, lifeless body was found inside her locked house when staff members of the lodge got worried because they could not contact her. They contacted the manager, who was in town doing shopping, asking for Christine’s house keys because they suspected something was wrong.
The police was also contacted and when they entered the house, they came across the severely injured body of Christine who had been stabbed to death.
As there were no signs of any forced entry, Christine must have known her attackers and opened the door for them.
Two employees of the lodge were reported missing over night. At this stage the police are looking for suspects.
It is suspected that the suspects were looking for money as Christine had the staff wages with her in the house. She was apparently dragged from room to room. Eventually they tried to strangle her and when they could not succeed, they stabbed her to death. At this stage it has not been confirmed whether or not the money, or any other items, were missing from the house.
Christine and Robbie Robinson took over ownership of Rra Ditau Game Lodge in 2002 and were well loved in the community. Robbie, originally from Belfast in Northern Ireland, passed away on 22 May 2012. Robbie and Christine did not have any children together, although Robbie was also survived by his daughter Tanya and son Neil.
Although Christine had her own home in France, she made Africa her own and decided to stay on at the lodge where she spent most of her married life with Robbie.
At this stage no funeral arrangements were made.
Christine will be badly missed by everybody that she came across in life. The lodge was quite popular with many civil department employees staying over just because of the tranquillity and peace this warm hearted retreat in the bushveld offered visitors.
