Petrus van Dyk from Polokwane was announced the Limpopo’s Boerewors Champion in the provincial rounds of the 2012 Shoprite Checkers Championship Boerewors Competition. He will go to Sun City in October to compete for the national crown!
The Limpopo Province provincial rounds took place at Checkers Polokwane in Limpopo with 5 contestants from as far as Louis Trichardt, Tzaneen and Bela-Bela who participated for the crown of the Limpopo Boerewors champion.
After a fun morning in which families participated in an array of activities with Simba the Lion and face painting and Mia and Louwrens Erasmus entertained the crowd. The boerewors makers were presented to the judges and Petrus van Dyk was announced the winner. He was delighted with his win and very proud of his boerewors-making skills.
Top food experts from the South African Chefs Association (SACA) did the judging and the head judge, Mr Clinton Verhoog, said after the event that the quality of the product presented to them was all of very high standard and it challenging to decide on the winner.
Winners of the provincial rounds each walk away with R2000 Shoprite or Checkers meat vouchers and gift hampers from Coca Cola, All Gold and Simba. All provincial winners will also enjoy a fun-filled weekend at Sun City where they join the other 9 finalists for the grand finale on 6 October.
The 2012 Shoprite Checkers Boerewors Champion will not only walk away with the sought after Championship Boerewors-crown, but also drive away in a brand-new Toyota Hilux 2.7 Double Cab Raised Body Raider.
The country’s many loyal boerewors lovers can meanwhile start preparing for yet another taste sensation, because the winning recipe boerewors will hit the shelves of Shoprite, Checkers and Checkers Hyper stores country wide, on 14 October.
